At some time in our lives, even after we have sought the counsel of the Lord, we find ourselves in situations where we need to seek the advice of wise and earnest counsel for guidance. Even after we may have already received counsel, the Word of God tells us that we are sure to have victory when we seek out the advice of many advisers, for with many wise and earnest advisers, plans succeed.
Through His spirit, God uses wise Christians to counsel His children. The problem with most, however, is that people do not want to hear wise counsel, but would rather do whatever is in their own mind to do. As a result, many of their plans fail.
Some, seek out the same counselors over and over again, without opening up to the advice of anyone else. God uses the counsel of many to make His purposes known; one may cultivate the ground, one may plant the seed, while others may come along to water and prune the crop before our harvest is manifested.
In chapter 5 of the book of John, the bible talks about a pool called Bethesda where disabled people came to lie. Once the water was stirred, the disabled would get in to be healed. One man who had been disabled for thirty eight years was lying at the pool. When Jesus asked him if he wanted to be made whole, all he could do was to come up with excuses about why he could not get into the pool.
All too often, people complain about their issues and problems, but few make appropriate attempts to be made whole by seeking wise counsel from many advisers. Instead, they lie in a pool of excuses, and live their lives wading in despair and discontentment.

Every time I try to love,
somebody lets me down.

At times my finances get out of whack
to the point of no return.
My debts are often bigger
than the paycheck that I earn.
When bill collectors call my home,
I'm tempted to change my voice.
I hate to have to lie like that,
so I make the righteous choice.
Satan tries to convince me
that the air I breathe, I can't afford.
I'm trying to buy myself some time
while You get him, Lord...Get him, Lord.
Living righteously and holy
are sometimes hard to do.
It's like temptations to sin are everywhere, and always stalking you.
Sometimes I want to throw in the towel
and say, "Forget this mess,
let me just live my life for myself,
and act like all the rest."
Then I think about Your goodness,
and how Your love for me was poured.
I'm just going to stand and wait
while You get him, Lord...Get him, Lord.
This battle never was mine to fight;
it's always been Yours, anyway.
So I surrender all I have,
and I'm giving it to You today.
Satan thinks he has it going on,
but he's a defeated foe.
When he gets up in my face,
I'll tell him where to go.
And when this world is over,
I'll get my just reward,
because in the end,
I know that You are going to
get him, Lord.
